Start with the full tyre specification
The size on the sidewall is only part of the specification. Check the load index, speed rating and any XL requirement stated for the vehicle. Two tyres marked 205/55R16 can still carry different service descriptions.
What matters for everyday road use
- Wet-road grip and predictable braking in heavy rain.
- Stable steering for city and highway driving.
- Ride comfort on uneven road surfaces.
- Road noise at normal driving speeds.
- Tread life that suits the vehicle, mileage and budget.
Do not assume a different size is an upgrade
A wider or lower-profile tyre can change overall diameter, wheel protection, steering feel and clearance. Stay with an approved specification unless an alternative has been properly checked.
